Venetian Masks are not just some masks. More than that, they have many different values behind. Have been made since centuries ago, Venetian Masks bear artistic and historical values. In the olden times, Venetian Masks were not only used as accessories in festivals or parades. They were not merely hung on the wall as ornaments. More than that, Venetian Masks were a part of the society in Venice. People of Venice used them to maintain their privacy in front of the public eye.
Venetian Masks have several types. For example, Full Face masks are called the Bauta, while the half masks are named Colombina. With ribbons as the toeing agent, Colombina is one of the most popular types of Venetian Masks. Other types of Venetian Masks are the oval masks, Moretta and Medico Della Peste (or Plague Doctor) which is recognized with a long beak in front part of the mask.
Now that the tradition was long gone, Venetian Masks maintains their noble title as the highly valued artwork. Every year in festivals like Venetian Festival or Mardi Gras, Venetian Masks are still used. Venetian carnival masks come in different shapes and colors. Each of the masks produced are handmade that no two masks are the same.
