Fringe Benefits

July 13, 2010

It’s the season of country and western style as fringing takes centre stage.

Fashion has gone all John Wayne this spring/summer with fringing making its way onto tops, skirts, handbags and off course girls shoes.

According to Marie Claire “High noon meets high fashion as designers take inspiration from the Wild West this summer.”

They add “whether it’s day or eveningwear, fringing is on everything.”

While style bible Vogue reckons “fringing moves away from last season’s flapper feel and into Country & Western territory.”

And its was all over the Spring/Summer 2010 with thick leather fringes on the catwalks at Marc Jacobs, Emilio Pucci and Felder Felder while at Mulberry shoes and jackets were fringed with Crazy Heart fringes and D&G put their models in fringed boots.

Where the catwalk leads the celebs are sure to follow Katy Perry, Hillary Duff, Anna Friel and Mischa Barton have all be spotted sporting the trend.

However, the key is not to go overboard with the look you don’t want to look like the cowboy or native American from Villiage People! Instead opt for a few key accessories or accent pieces like a fringed bag or fringed boots –Minnetonka have a pair that has nailed this look and they’ll take you into autumn too!

And Vogue’s tips on how to wear the trend well they advice us to “Wear with ruffles and silk frills for a play on texture – at Jasmine Di Milo, fringed bolero jackets accompanied evening dresses.”

And if you want to nail two ladies shoe trends in one you could try the humble moccasin according to Alice Watt writing in Elle “classic shoes have been reinvented this season into modern statement pieces – for an alternative to the surprisingly popular clogs look to the sporty versions of heeled moccasins.”

Fringed moccasins were even seen on the Mulberry catwalk according to the Vogue blog the range included “a delightful pair of heeled moccasin-esque shoe-boots decorated with lashings of fringe.”

So to be bang on trend make sure those new ladies shoes are fringed.
